About Me

About Me...

I am a graduate of the Integral Yoga Institute, Virginia, class of winter 2012 and a registered member of the Yoga Alliance.

Modern life is often demanding and disconnects us from what is most important. Yoga and meditation can assist you in reconnecting you to your Source.

In 2013 I became a certified Reiki Practitioner. Reiki uses the universal life-force energy to bring healing to the whole person. It does this, in harmony with the natural intelligence of the mind and body, which work together to preserve and protect health and increase well being.

 (Reiki 1 and Reiki II)

Additionally, I hold certifications in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Restorative Yoga with Thai Touch, Meditation, Yoga Nidra and Children's Yoga.

It is my belief that Yoga is designed to bring together the mind, body and soul by using body movement and meditation. It is based on the yogic strategy that the mind and body are in fact “One”. I believe that if you practice yoga every day over a long period of time in earnest, it can help bring the body to reach a place of harmony and heal itself.

Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well.
~Mother Teresa

Yoga 101 Back to Basics

Let's Align

Time: 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM

The correct alignment when in Yoga Postures is fundamental and is something, I pride myself on the correct teaching of. Whether you attend Hatha or Vinyasa Flow classes I invite you take the time to delve deeply into this workshop to really start to understand and connect with the correct positioning of the postures.

Throughout my classes I always aim to teach correct alignment either in our verbal cues or physical adjustments but there is only so much that can be take on board in an hour’s class.

This workshop therefore is an opportunity to empower you to become more of your own teacher in your practice as you start to recognise and connect more with how things should feel in your body and in the postures.

Correct alignment is not only essential to avoid injury but it also unlocks blocks you may currently be experiencing in some postures.

What is Restorative Yoga?

Join me, Susan Orrico Duffy E-RYT for Restorative Yoga Teacher Training:

Restorative yoga is a "yummy" practice, a treat, like a massage or mani pedi. When we practice Restorative Yoga the body is in passive postures supported by props using no muscular effort. We are releasing muscular and inner tension. The mind becomes spacious and the body receptive. The body shifts from the sympathetic nervous system- fight and flight - to the para-sympathetic nervous system- rest and digest. It is here, where the body begins to restore itself. Restorative poses help the relaxation respond to kick in, balancing the nervous system and optimizing energy flow to our organs. The body is set up for deep restoration, weightless, growth and repair. Restorative Yoga helps relieve the effects of chronic stress and move the spine in all directions to promote greater well-being.

Who is this training for?

This training is for Yoga teachers new and old alike, as well as health professionals, including doctors, nurses, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, mental-health professionals, counselors, body workers, mind-body fitness instructors, health coaches, and others working in health and wellness, helping, and teaching professions.
